Pub Stars Grand Final - A Night to Remember

The Pub Stars National Karaoke Competition 2008 ended in a spectacular finale last week at Camelot Theme Park in Preston. After 8 months of tough competitions across the county, the fourteen Grand Finalists came together to compete for the crown of Pub Stars Champion 2008.  The atmosphere was electric with the crowd raising the roof after each performance.

Although nerves were present, they did nothing but drive the adrenaline: all the finalists rose to the occasion and gave their best possible performance. After careful deliberation, the 4 judges announced their top stars of the evening in reverse order. In third place, from The Malt Shovel in Hungerford, was Alistair Ward: second place was awarded to Claire Yaxley, from The Regal in Norwich; and finally the Pub Stars Champion for 2008 was declared as Natalie Whalin, (pictured above: centre and top right), representing the Bullion Wine Bar in St Helens.  Natalie wowed the judges with her rendition of Pink’s' Who Knew’.

The contestants were joined on stage by the judges: Richard Horne, Managing Director of Mediatheme Limited; Pascal Magdinier, Music Director of Easy Karaoke; Andrew Campbell of Pub Stars, and reigning champion of Pub Stars, 2007 winner Stephen Barr.

Huge congratulations to Natalie who was presented with a cheque for £3000 and a chance to record her own gold disc courtesy of Easy Karaoke. All contestants deserve our praise as the performances were of such high quality – everyone singing at this stage of the competition is already a star!

Pub Stars Regional Finals

Karaoke madness has hit the UK, covering the whole of the country in just five weekends the Pub Stars team highten their search for the 2008 Champion.  With well known faces from previous years and plenty of new talent taking part, yet again Pub Stars helps licensees drive revenue through their tills.

Trade Show Success

Dispite the current unease across the pub industry, due to the economic downturn, Mediatheme achieved a very positive response during this months trade show. Leads were as high if not higher than 2007 and interest was strong, with a number of new venue owners looking at ways to guarantee success.  Attracting customers to their venue and keeping them spending for longer.

Pub Stars™ is designed to maximise your profits over the winter months. The first stage of the competition is managed by you. Run heats each week during January-May with your own in-house final. The more nights you run the more publicity you gain resulting in more customers through the door.

Your star then goes on to represent your venue at the regional heats in June-July, with the Grand Final being held in September.

Skint or Mint
The game of chance, mystery and tension, as players take part in a battle of nerves, courage and risk against the mysterious banker.

The game works using a maximum of 22 boxes each containing various amounts of cash.  No-one knows what amount is in each box. 

The player chooses their own box at the beginning of the game, which they will keep until the end.  He/she then begins opening the remaining boxes on the board aiming to eliminate the lower amounts.  During the game, the banker will offer the player cash amounts to buy them out.  The decision to gamble and continue to the next round is in the hands of the player.

As the player goes through the rounds each choice is pivotal as the more, higher amounts that remain the higher the amount the banker will be, forced to offer.  The tension rises as the boxes disappear one by one, no-one knows if the right deal has been taken until the end of the game.

The player can take the banker’s offer when it is made or choose to risk going all the way to the end of the game and take what’s in their box whether it is £5 or £500!  Do they have what it takes to beat the banker?

Sell More Save More
Mediatheme™ has been asked by the team at The Publican Newspaper to head up the Entertainment category for their category management project Sell More Save More. Mediatheme’s primary objectives being, to highlight the importance of entertainment as part of a Publican’s revenue generation, not as a service. By developing a programme over the course of the project showing successes and pitfalls correlated to effort and planning.
